Ducks

Help Our Baby Ducks

A recent post from one of our neighbors. If anyone can assist, please contribute some food.

The summer has been hard on the ducks. The little pond hasn't had any fresh water in it for months and is low. There have been an over load of duckling broods which has drastically reduced the natural food supply. There are now at least four groups of ducklings. We have observed the adult ducks being very very aggressive towards the moms and their new babies. It would be of help if every one interested would go to the store and purchase regular bird seed. If put in several piles on bare patches of ground it would eliminate the competition among the adults and babies. They need real food, 3 or 4 pounds of regular bird seed (corn, maize, or millet) per day should do it. Thanks so much, Rick

Stuck DucklingHere is a pic of a little duckling that was trapped in the storm drain on Eaglebend Lane earlier today. Good news: little duckling has been reunited with momma duck!

Recent News about Duck Massacre

All:

I was extremely upset and angry to hear about the recent duck massacre that allegedly occurred within our community earlier this week. I am told that up to 17 ducks and ducklings were murdered by youth in our green belt area. I understand that many were shot by a air gun, or stoned to death. I am going on second hand information, and I understand that the police were called, and apprehended the culprits. I also understand that each of the children (their parents) have been, or will be charged with criminal mischief.

As a community we have to ensure that this kind of senseless violence does not occur again. To the extremely conscientious neighbor who called the police, thank you. However  we need to make sure that as the summer school break starts and continues, we keep a vigilant eye on the unsupervised children within our community to make sure that they respect our community and ALL of the inhabitants that reside within it AT ALL TIMES.
